It is not, of course, a King James version but an easier to read translation. I was first introduced to her through the book Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus, which she co-wrote with Lois Tverberg. It has been translated directly from the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. This bible features all the names of Yahweh throughout the Old Testament, but also includes many more, plus the names are featured by the author with explanations as to their meanings.

The scripture takes on a whole new meaning when you have the original names and what they meant. For example, Genesis begins: "In the beginning Elohim created heaven and earth.

The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep water. The Ruach Elohim was hovering over the water. I would not know what the Ruach Elohim was if Biblical scholars had not shown me and translated it to "the Spirit of God".

But now, as I grow older in my faith, it is nice to discover these names of God and how they relate to the text surrounding them. This Bible is one that I will treasure and use often and I know would make any student of the Bible thrilled to receive it this Christmas.

Often when I hear a different name for God, I wonder just what the full meaning of the name is, especially some of the names we dont use so often. This Bible has a lot of information and features that help teach us about these names. Some of the wonderful features in this Bible to help are reading paths-that give references with that particular name with I tend to collect Bibles, different translations and different study bibles.

Some of the wonderful features in this Bible to help are reading paths-that give references with that particular name with scripture references; an alphabetical listing of the names and a list of Hebrew and Aramaic names; it has a topical prayer guide for these names; a table of the names of God; also you will find an introduction to each of the books of the Bible which include the key names of God in that book.

And one thing I really need that this book has is a pronunciation guide to help you pronounce all of these names. I know no Hebrew at all, so this is a feature that is special to me. One feature I really like it the short devotional this Bible has of each of the Names of God they have listed here. These devotionals are most interesting to read because they have a lot of special information about the names. Also as you read the Old Testament scripture that have these names, this Bible uses the Hebrew names of God, which is sometime confusing because you have to switch back to see which name it is.

Unless however you memorize the names before you read the scripture. I highly recommend this Bible as an addition to your Bible Study tools. I plan to keep mine just for this reason. I received this book from the publisher Revell to read and review. I was not required to write a positive review.

The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Praying the Names of God

In some cultures your name is changed as you age, and more is revealed about your personality and traits. In literature allegories choose the names of the characters carefully to alert the reader to what may be expected from such characters. How much more important is it to know the names by which God has revealed Himself to us. His many names describe aspects of his character and demonstrate His love for us, and how He displays such love. These names point out for us what He holds to be important in our lives and how we relate to Him. This is a well-written investigation into many of the aspects of our Lord and how He has revealed Himself to His people. It is not preachy or didactic, but is invitational in nature, asking the reader to become more comfortable in the presence of God and to bask in His love and care for His creation.
