Loose Headphone Jack Test audio through the computer speakers, then test it using headphones. If the audio is only distorted while listening via headphones, the audio jack or the headphones themselves may be faulty.
Audio that cuts in and out is often a sign of a loose audio jack, so make sure the audio jack is fully inserted in the computer. If you are running XP as your system, then you will need to install the Sigmatel audio driver.
This audio driver will not install until you first have a chipset driver installed. Once you download and install these in order, with restarts after each, you will be set. Broken Motherboard If your Dell Latitude D is not showing any information on screen display, then you may have a problem with the motherboard.
This will need to be checked once you disassemble the laptop. To check this you will need a multimeter and a electronic schematic diagram. If you find it is the motherboard, and the multimeter determines it has faulty components, then these components should be replaced. Check this by using charger to see if the charging light works. Disassemble the power button and check the continuity of the circuit with multimeter.
If the circuit still has electrical current then the power button needs to be replaced. To reset this circuit unplug the charger, take out the battery, and hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Once it is off, can take a cotton swab with a little bit of alcohol to clean out the inner workings. After that you can take compressed air to blow out any crumbs or larger pieces of junk that you were not able to get out first.

Video Not Working You have trouble playing videos from a cable hooked from the laptop to the desktop. You will likely need to get a new system board. A board with integrated graphics should fix the problem and have you running again.
